HIV / AIDS Surveillance Program

The HIV/AIDS Surveillance program was implemented in Puerto Rico in 1987. The mission of this program is to monitor and describe the HIV infection in Puerto Rico through the Epidemiologic Surveillance System, under a cooperative agreement with the CDC in Atlanta and his National Surveillance Division. This program also participates in two supplementary proposals of HIV Surveillance and one proposal to create the Jurisdiction Plan for the Ending the HIV Epidemic activities. The proposal for this Plan will be submitted on May, 2020.   

COAÍ, Inc.

COAÍ, Inc. is a Community-Based Organization (CBO) with more than 20 years of experience developing and implementing various strategies and activities directed at HIV prevention and education services. This organization also offers education to the population of special communities and schools throughout Puerto Rico. The HIV/AIDS Cancer Match (HACM)

The HIV/AIDS Cancer Match (HACM) Study examines cancer risk in people living with HIV infection. Since 2014, the HACM has been collaborating with Dr. Colon- López and Dr. Ana P. Ortiz, of the Puerto Rico Cancer Registry and the HIV Surveillance System, in creating a linkage between both registries in the island. After achieving this, Puerto Rico is part of the study sites of the HACM study. The collaboration established with the Puerto Rico team provides the opportunity for the development of data analysis and publications using the national dataset.  

Grupo Movilización Comunitaria

Since 2014, the Grupo Movilización Comunitaria has focused on the prevention of HIV in Puerto Rico, empowering and educating Puerto Rican communities about the importance of testing for HIV in a routinary way. Currently, its members include Community Based Organizations (CBOs), universities and institutes, as well as private and governmental agencies. The group try to understand different situations and develop strategies for the reduction of HIV in Puerto Rico. For more information, access the following link.
